To Windermere and Wray Castle
This walk starts at the doorstep and we defy you to find a more beautiful one so close at hand anywhere else! From the cottage, turn left, walk to the end of the lane, cross the main road, walk down the side of the old WI meeting place, turn left into the Woodland Trust wood, follow the path through to the main road towards Ambleside and then immediately turn off to the right along the bridleway. Follow the path through the woods, down the hill and across the fields, past Blelham Tarn, and continue on the path as it runs along the other side of the hedge from the road. At the gate, cross the road and take the side road down towards the campsite. Just before the first building take the path up hill to the right which leads to the drive into Wray Castle. Turn left and walk through the castle grounds and down to the lakeside. From there you can walk in either direction alongside the lake.
You can either return along the same route or make a circular walk as follows. Return to the minor road and turn left. After about 200 yards turn right along the footpath. The footpath leads past Hole House onto a minor road. After about 100 yards turn right past High Tock How and take the second footpath to the left, back towards Outgate.
