Tarn Hows

This is a walk best enjoyed early in the morning or out of season, as the beauty of Tarn Hows is marred only by its popularity. Leaving the cottage, turn right, walk to the end of the lane, turn left, walk to the main road and then follow the footpath along the side of the road and turn into the first lane on the right. Follow the lane to Knipe Fold, ignore the lane to the right and then turn left. Follow the road for a few yards before turning sharp right onto the track which takes you up over the hill. After the track has turned to the south west, turn off and take the path south to Tarn Hows. For a less stoney and shorter, picturesque way back, take the path by Rose Castle over to Bettyfold. Alternatively, take the path down the side of the waterfalls, carry on to Coniston and get the bus back.
